Afro Dogs Motorcycle Club of Youngstown has donated $200 to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center.

The club is planning to raise funds to donate to cancer research every five to six months and hopes to work with other local motorcycle clubs and motorcycle riders in the project. For information about donating, contact Afro Dogs member LaDonna Harris at ladonnaharris@gmail.com.

Afro Dogs focuses on safe, smart motorcycle riding and promoting a positive image of motorcycle clubs, as well as participating in community-strengthening projects and outreach for youth and local residents.

2 sought after chase

YOUNGSTOWN

Police continue looking for two men who managed to elude officers Tuesday after a vehicle chase that ended with a cruiser being damaged.

Police tried to pull over a stolen SUV with two men inside about 3:10 a.m. on the South Side, but the SUV driver refused to stop until it got to a driveway in the 600 block of Almyra Avenue, where a cruiser smashed into it. The two men inside jumped out and ran away. Police could not find them, reports said.

Event for Vukovich

A retirement dinner will take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave., for Judge Joseph Vukovich, who is retiring from the 7th District Court of Appeals.

Among the speakers are Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor, Associate Justice Terrence O’Donnell, Ohio House Speaker William Batchelder and former state Senate President Harry Meshel. Cost is $75 per person.

Immunization clinic

GIRARD

A well-child immunization clinic will take place Jan. 15 in the Girard Health Department located in the city building, 100 W. Main St.

Parents must pre-register children. For an appointment, call the health department at 330-545-6048 between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A $10 administrative fee is charged per child. Parents or guardians must bring a copy of the child’s immunization record. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 18.

No Jennings hike

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA.

The First Day Hike that was scheduled at Jennings Environmental Education Center on Thursday has been canceled.

As an alternative, guests are invited to hike at Jennings on their own. Jennings trails are open from dawn to dusk, and staff will be in the park office building from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Moraine State Park in nearby Portersville, Pa., will host its own First Day Hike from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, in partnership with the Butler Outdoor Club. Interested participants should meet at the bike rental parking lot on the North Shore to hike out and back along the North Country Trail in the direction of the Link Road shelters. The hike is slated to be 4 to 5 miles long.

Copper coil stolen

Businesses in a South Avenue plaza were affected after someone stole about $25,000 worth of copper coil from a rooftop heating/air-conditioning unit.

Six heating-ventilation and air-conditioning units were damaged when someone stole the condenser coils from the roof of the Mathews Square Plaza, according to a police report filed Monday. The incident affected two businesses, at 5963 and 6607 South Ave., as well as three vacant units.
