Visitation restricted at Mahoning Valley Mercy Health hospitals

YOUNGSTOWN — Because of the increase in the number of influenza cases, Mercy Health is limiting patient visitation immediately at St. Elizabeth Youngstown, St. Elizabeth Boardman and St. Joseph Warren hospitals and all long-term care facilities to protect patients, residents, their families and caregivers.

“You run the risk of infecting your friend or family member, or our hospital staff or other patients when you visit while sick,” said Dr. Nick Kreatsoulas, chief medical officer.

Until the influenza subsides, patient visitation rules are no visitors under 14; the practice of allowing one family member to stay overnight in the room with a patient is suspended, though exceptions may be granted in cases of gravely ill or minor patients; and waiting rooms cannot be used for overnight accommodations.
