On Broadway

NEW YORK

Theater-goers were very generous to Broadway producers this holiday season, with 19 of the current 36 shows breaking the $1 million mark and almost 30,000 more people in the seats than last Christmas.

The Broadway League said Monday that Broadway shows pulled in more than $40 million for the week ending Sunday, better than the same week last year when 30 shows attracted nearly $39 million. Attendance also went from more than 290,000 in 2013 to nearly 318,000 this year.

An old favorite was once again the best bet. Disney’s “The Lion King” remained Broadway’s highest-grossing show of the year for the second time in a row.
