First Day Hike at Jennings in Slippery Rock, Pa., is canceled

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA. — The First Day Hike that was scheduled at Jennings Environmental Education Center on Thursday has been canceled.

As an alternative, guests are invited to hike at Jennings on their own. Jennings trails are open from dawn to dusk, and staff will be in the park office building from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Moraine State Park in nearby Portersville, Pa., will host its own First Day Hike 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, in partnership with the Butler Outdoor Club. Interested participants should meet at the bike rental parking lot on the North Shore to hike out and back along the North Country Trail in the direction of the Link Road shelters.

The hike is slated to be four to five miles long, but participants may take a shorter hike by turning back and returning to the bike rental area earlier.

For information, contact Jennings at 724-794-6011 or email jenningssp@pa.gov.
