3 Ohio ski resorts may open this week

PENINSULA, Ohio (AP) — Skiers and snowboarders might be able to hit the slopes at three northern Ohio resorts soon — but they’ll have to settle for machine-made snow.

Officials at ski resorts in Summit and Geauga counties are finally pumping out the fake snow, thanks to dropping temperatures this week. Mild weather and lack of snow this December has kept the resorts closed.

Steve Mackle, marketing manager for the ski resorts Brandywine, Boston Mills and Alpine Valley, tells The Plain Dealer of Cleveland says he hasn’t set an opening date yet, but he may later this week.

Ski resorts typically need temperatures at 28 degrees or below to efficiently make snow. A snowy November did allow some resorts in the state to open early.
