Hubbard Road prison loses federal contract

YOUNGSTOWN — The Northeast Ohio Correctional Center on Hubbard Road in Youngstown has lost its U.S. Bureau of Prisons contract to house 1,500 federal inmates.

Chris Burke, a U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman, confirmed the loss this morning.

He said BOP has made contract awards to Moshannon Valley Correctional Center in Phillipsburg, Pa., and Great Plains Correctional Facility in Hinton, Okla.

Officials of the Corrections Corp. of America in Nashville, Tenn, which operates NOCC, had urged a letter-wriing campaign to members of Congress in support of the contract renewal here to save 400 prison jobs.
