Magazine ranks Grove City College president “most influential”

GROVE CITY, PA.

Grove City College President Paul J. McNulty is one of “2014’s 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics,” according to Ethisphere magazine.

McNulty ranked 65th on Ethisphere’s list, which spans a diverse collection of industries, job roles and countries. People on the list “have exerted an undeniable impact on the way business is regarded and conducted around the world,” according to the magazine.

“Having built a career punctuated by high-level roles such as deputy attorney general and U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, the famed author of the McNulty memo is now bringing his personal brand of the integrity and exemplary leadership skills to the field of academia through his new role as head of the prestigious Grove City College,” the magazine said.

McNulty’s legal career has spanned more than three decades of public service and private practice, most recently as a senior partner in the global law firm of Baker & McKenzie. During his tenure with the federal government, McNulty served as the U.S. Deputy attorney general from 2005-07. As the second-highest-ranking official in the Department of Justice, he was responsible for overseeing more than 100,000 employees and played a key policy-making role.

As deputy attorney general, McNulty chaired President George W. Bush’s Corporate Fraud Task Force and organized the Department’s U.S. rule-of-law efforts in Iraq. He authored the “McNulty Memorandum,” a milestone statement on the federal prosecution of business organizations that encourages companies to establish robust compliance programs.

Other notable figures joining the college president on the list are: Adam Silver, commissioner of the National Basketball Association; Angelina Jolie, actress and co-chairwoman of Kids In Need of Defense; Chelsea Clinton, vice chairwoman for the Clinton Foundation; Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors; Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.; Tim Cook, CEO of Apple; Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook; and Pope Francis.

This isn’t the first time McNulty has appeared in Ethisphere. The magazine recognized him as a hall-of-famer in its annual listing of “Attorneys Who Matter” for his years in public service and his work in the private sector.
