Resolve to attend First Night

Looking for some action on New Year’s Eve this week? Then look no further than downtown Youngstown and Canfield where a tradition of low-cost entertainment, education, enjoyment, excitement and community engagement once again will lavishly unfold to usher in 2015.

First Night Youngstown, of which The Vindicator is a major sponsor, will feature 12 venues ranging from 20 Federal Place to the Covelli Centre to the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. Patrons can shuttle from one station to the next to enjoy the sights and sounds of pop bands, an Elvis tribute, an ice sculptor, African dancing and more. Families can take part in ice skating with the Youngstown Phantoms, cookie-making at One Hot Cookie and interactive educational game playing at the Oh Wow children’s center. Two fireworks shows also will brighten the night.

In Canfield, First Night celebrators can partake in entertainment ranging from Beatlemania to juggling and ballet to cabaret at several venues in the city beginning at 5 p.m.

In addition to all of the fun, First Night also helps to unite our community in a festive, proud, positive setting minus the risks, dangers and hangovers of traditional alcohol-centered events.
