Radio personality returns home

HERMITAGE, Pa.

Former Mahoning Valley radio personality Scott Kennedy is back home after a stint in a halfway house. Kennedy, 58, of Hermitage, was listed at a home address on a Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law website, where sex offenders are required to register their residence. In September, he was released from Allenwood Federal Correctional Complex in Union County, Pa., to the Renewal Community Correction Center in Pittsburgh.

Kennedy was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison in August 2011 for possessing child pornography after authorities discovered 238 images and videos of children engaged in sexual acts on his computer. His prison sentence was set to expire Jan. 13, 2015. Kennedy was program director and morning host for WYFM radio, where he worked from 1985 to 2011.

DUI arrest

Shenango, Pa.

A man crashed and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Wednesday. Pennsylvania State Police in Mercer County said Tyler Joseph Grubb, 19, of Ashtabula was driving his car westbound on Interstate 80 through Shenango Township at 2:15 a.m. when he left the north side of the roadway and struck a guard rail end with the right side of his vehicle. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Charges are pending based on Grubb’s blood- alcohol content level.

Power outages

LOWELLVILLE

High winds on Christmas Eve caused outages here, David Turner, First Energy area manager, said Thursday, The outages were in small pockets of the village and were restored by 11 p.m. Wednesday, he said. He did not know how many homes were affected. Canfield also had some outages, he said.

Fire destroys home

Sharon, Pa.

A Christmas Day fire has left a family without their home. Sharon fire officials responded to the two-story blaze at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Robinson Place and Fifth Avenue. Fire Capt. Paul McSherry said crews could see the flames as they left their station and all four occupants were out of the house when they arrived. Two cats were found in the basement, but McSherry said four to five other cats perished. The cause of the fire is listed as accidental. The house was destroyed, and the family did not have insurance, McSherry said. The family planned to stay with relatives Thursday night; the American Red Cross had been notified. The family was alerted to the blaze by smoke detectors, McSherry said.

Grease fire at home

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

A grease fire was quickly extinguished Christmas Day. Fire officials responded to a home on Jackson Avenue at about noon Thursday, and the blaze was under control by 12:07 p.m. Crews found heavy smoke and flames in the kitchen. A woman and her cat got out without injuries, they said. Loss was estimated at $50,000.

Man flees crash site

YOUNGSTOWN

A man fled from his crashed car and was apprehended by Youngstown and Weathersfield police Thursday. Davail Dow, 18, was charged with carrying concealed weapons in Youngstown. Authorities located Dow, in just gym shorts, near the AT&T store on Salt Springs Road, according to a Youngstown police report. He came from an area of woods with numerous cuts on his hands, arms and feet and they transported him back to the crash site. Dow crashed into a utility pole at the corner of Meridian and Salt Springs roads.
