Knife-wielding man killed by Cleveland-area cop

BEDFORD, Ohio (AP) — An officer responding to a disturbance call this morning at a Cleveland-area home fatally shot a man who brandished a knife and moved toward officers after they tried to subdue him using a stun gun, police said.

Police were responding to a 911 call from a sobbing woman who said her live-in boyfriend was drunk and was destroying furniture, holiday decorations and other items in her suburban home while her adult daughter and son slept inside, according to a recording of the call.

“He just keeps telling me to get out of his face,” she said. “I want him out of here.”

The man confronted police, acknowledged he had a weapon and reached behind his back, Bedford police Chief Kris Nietert said in a statement. Officers used a stun gun, but that wasn’t effective on the man, who pulled a knife, moved toward police and was shot by one officer, Nietert said.
