CHS boys have record breaking swims


The Canfield High School boys and girls swim teams took on Massillon Perry on Dec. 12.

The girls team defeated their opponent with a score of 200-155.

Claiming first places finished for the girls were Sarah Heaven (200 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke), Maggie Beistel (200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Theresa Mikolay (200 medley relay, 100 butterfly) and Rachel Williams (200 medley relay, 400 freestyle).

The boys team saw victory over Massillon Perry with scores of 116-64. Canfield High School records were set by Connor Brady in the 100 yard butterfly and Kyle Anderson in the 400 yard freestyle events.

First place finishes were earned by Kyle Anderson (200 medley relay, 200 indiviual medley, 400 freestyle, 400 free relay), Connor Brady (200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 free relay), Matthew Bogen (200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 free relay, 100 breaststroke), Ben Brucoli (200 medley relay, 100 freestyle, 200 free relay), Cullen Brady (100 backstroke, 400 free relay), Alec Gaetano (200 free relay, 400 free relay) and Kamran Sarac (400 free relay).

The Canfield boys and girls swimming teams also participated in the Northeast Aquatic Conference Swim and Dive Relay on Dec. 13 at Warren Harding.

The girls team saw defeat with a team score of 70. Other schools competing at the event included Boardman (150), Wooster (132), GlenOak (102), Warren Harding (62), Kent Roosevelt (58), Massillon (58) and Perry (34).

The boys team saw defeat with a score of 94, despite the relay team of juniors Jared Rothbauer, Matthew Bogen, Alec Gaetano and Ben Brucoli breaking the school 250 crescendo medley relay record set in 2009. They swam a 2:14.58, crushing the old record by 4.17 seconds. Other teams competing in the meet included Wooster (140), Boardman (108), GlenOak (96), Perry (58), Kent Roosevelt (54) and Massillon (12).
