A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Dec. 16

Criminal mischief: An inflatable Christmas decoration was damaged in a yard in the 1900 block of Reads Street.

Recovered property: Assorted jewelry was found near North Lima and Spitler roads.

Dec. 17

Theft: A Center Road woman reported a 40-inch TV stolen from her residence.

BOARDMAN

Dec. 18

Bad checks: Beaver Township police handed 45-year-old Cheryl L. Rose of West Middletown Road, Columbiana, to township authorities. She was wanted on a warrant charging passing of a bad check.

Theft: Officers picked up Daniel J. Tucci, 45, of Yarmouth Lane, Boardman, who was wanted on a theft charge related to a Nov. 24 shoplifting situation in which a $40 T-shirt was stolen from Touchdown Gifts and More in Southern Park Mall. Tucci also was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging theft.

Domestic violence: Rocky S. Ortiz II, 29, of Huntington Drive, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Ortiz had pushed her to the ground, causing the accuser to strike a space heater, then picked her up by the neck and choked her.

Theft: James M. Ferris, 28, of Market Street, Cortland, and 30-year-old Malaysa S. Kasnick of Ridgewood Avenue, Niles, were charged with stealing roughly $165 worth of children’s clothing, including a hooded sweatshirt, from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road. Ferris also was wanted on warrants charging one count each of larceny and theft.

Theft: Police charged 37-year-old Belinda R. Shaffer with theft after alleging Shaffer, of Pasadena Avenue, Youngstown, had stolen about $87 worth of merchandise, including medicine, from Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd.

Dec. 19

Auto theft: Two vehicles were missing from a sales lot at Preston Hyundai, 7554 Market St.

Arrest: Police at Boardman Area Court on Market Street took into custody 23-year-old Lawanda S. Hubbard of Gahanna, Ohio, who was wanted on charges of theft and identity theft. Hubbard also was charged with obstructing official business when, officers said, she provided a phony first name.

Drugs: The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested 21-year-old Jamie M. McCutcheon at his Bonnie Place apartment after a search warrant had been issued and, authorities said, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found. The Boardman man faced two felony counts of trafficking in drugs.

Theft: Authorities took custody of 50-year-old John W. Stricko Jr. of South Schenley Avenue, Youngstown. He was accused of stealing about $180 worth of groceries Sept. 30 from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Dec. 20

Attempted assault: A Boardman man told police that while protesting in front of a Market Street car dealership, someone drove by in a truck and tossed an aluminum soda can at him.

Domestic violence: Police charged 30-year-old Emmanuel I. Jones of Applecrest Court, Boardman, after his girlfriend alleged that during a heated argument in a vehicle, Jones chased her from the car, then pushed and held her down in a yard on nearby Oakridge Drive.

Theft: Dominique O. King, 23, who listed addresses on Hood Drive in Canfield and Victor Avenue in Youngstown, was charged after a family member, of Cook Avenue, reported a 32-inch TV stolen from her apartment. In an unrelated case, King also was accused of stealing six shirts and another item from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open a garage door, entered the residence in the 4000 block of Riverside Drive and stole copper piping. Also missing were two lawn chairs.

Theft: A Youngstown woman noticed her cellphone had been stolen while at a Market Street restaurant.

Theft: A New Middletown woman discovered her wallet missing while at an East Western Reserve Road gas station.

Criminal damaging: A sign was removed from an apartment complex near Tippecanoe Road.

Theft: Lori L. Arnoto, 47, of Irma Street, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of an $18 bottle of shampoo from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Breaking and entering: Authorities responded to a possible break-in at the Mahoning County Educational Service Center, 100 DeBartolo Place, before charging 52-year-old Daniel A. Mavroudis of Park Avenue, Youngstown, with three counts of attempted breaking and entering as well as one each of robbery and breaking and entering. An employee saw Mavroudis in a hallway, then chased him on foot after realizing he had reportedly broken into an office and tried to enter three others, a report stated.

Theft: Frank Marchionda, 71, of Squirrel Hill Drive, Boardman, was accused of taking 12 items from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: Authorities charged Marla A. Zema, 37, and Michael L. Zema, 38, both of Main Street, Wellsville, with stealing roughly $373 worth of women’s clothing from Plato’s Closet, 400 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A man stole two pairs of tennis shoes from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.

Dec. 21

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 8400 block of Market Street was found with a large crack on its windshield as well as with damage to the ignition system.

Domestic violence: Terry D. Marks of Erskine Avenue, Boardman, faced a felony domestic-violence charge after his girlfriend alleged the 51-year-old Marks had struck her in the face during an ongoing argument. The charge was upgraded because of two previous convictions, a report showed.

Harassment: An Erskine Avenue woman said she’s received a series of such calls.

Theft: Gary W. Peck, 20, of Nantucket Drive, Austintown, was charged after five pairs of socks were stolen from Walmart.

Vandalism: A 13-year-old Austintown boy was charged with one misdemeanor count of vehicular vandalism after a man reported that while driving on South Avenue, someone had tossed an object, leaving two dents in his car’s rear door.

Theft: Sierra M. Whitney, 28, was charged with stealing diapers, lotion and other items from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St. Whitney, of Miller Street, Youngstown, also was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging larceny.

Dec. 22

Aggravated menacing: An employee with a Market Street jewelry store reported that a customer threatened to get a firearm, apparently after she had intervened when the person was in the store arguing with two other people.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4100 block of Lockwood Boulevard pried a vehicle’s logo off, leaving scratches on a wheel.

Breaking and entering: A $900 snow blower was taken from a shed in the 6300 block of South Avenue after a door latch had been cut.

Counterfeit: A man passed four fake $100 bills at Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Scrap metal was removed from near a trash bin at a West Boulevard long-term care facility.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at a home and a car in the 7600 block of Buchanan Drive.

Theft: Authorities booked 36-year-old Jedediah M. Thomas via phone on a theft charge after Thomas, of Glenhaven Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of renting a steam-cleaning machine Oct. 13 from Rental Corral, 4627 Market St., and failing to return it.

Theft: A woman reported her purse missing from a shopping cart at a Boardman-Poland Road big-box store.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4000 block of South Avenue slashed all of a truck’s tires and broke one of its headlamps.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown at a car in the 7700 block of Amberwood Trail.

Employee theft: Ja Brayah C. Thompkins-Craft, 19, of Mabel Street, Youngstown, was charged after a Walmart official alleged Thompkins-Craft had intentionally failed to charge certain people for items they had bought. She also adjusted prices on some merchandise without authorization, a police report showed.

Harassment: A Glendale Avenue woman said she received multiple daily unwanted calls.

Theft: Police booked 70-year-old Linda M. Hoppel of Longs Church Road, East Liverpool, after $71.43 worth of merchandise was stolen from Rulli Bros., 8025 South Ave.

Dec. 23

Bad checks: Officers picked up 27-year-old Michael C. Mele of Wingate Road, Poland, who was wanted on a felony charge of passing bad checks related to a Nov. 6 situation in which an investigator discovered 16 fraudulent checks had been deposited and withdrawn at Charter One Bank, 955 Boardman-Poland Road, resulting in an $8,277 loss.

Domestic violence: Octavia B. Mayhew, 27, of Sexton Street, Struthers, was charged with domestic violence and aggravated trespassing after her former boyfriend, of Wolosyn Circle, alleged Mayhew had entered his apartment without permission and, in an effort to fight her way into a bedroom, scratched his neck.
