UPDATE | Man with gun at Shops at Boardman Park faces charges

BOARDMAN — The man witnesses reported seeing with a gun at The Shops at Boardman Park was putting together an airsoft rifle in his car, he told township police.

Donald Pickney, 47, of Louisiana was charged with a misdemeanor count of inducing panic and a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon today after police found the rifle and a loaded pistol in his car in front of Old Navy in the shops.

After multiple 911 calls came in about a man sitting in his car in the parking lot with a sniper-style rifle, about 10 cruisers responded to the scene.

Officers surrounded the suspect's car at gunpoint, at which point he told police the gun was not real. Police said he was cooperative.

Police founded a loaded pistol in his car for which he did not have the required permits.

Pickney is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Tuesday.
