Pizza competition set for Jan. 17

Seventeen area pizza shops will compete in the Slice of the Valley pizza competition set for Jan. 17 at Eastwood Expo Center.

The event will take place from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and will include a pizza-eating contest, auctions, music and a 50-50 raffle.

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 and younger. Beer and wine also will be available to purchase.

Proceeds will be used for improvements at Warren Interfaith Park on Warren’s southeast side.

Those who attend will vote on the People’s Choice Award, and celebrity judges will choose the Judge’s Choice Award. Celebrity judges are Travis Tucker, former Cleveland Browns player; Stan Boney, WYTV news anchor; and Fred Young, taste tester from Chicago.

Pizza shops that will participate are Sunrise Inn, Buena Vista, Papa Johns, Belleria, Enzo’s and Pizza Joe’s in Warren; Leo’s Ristorante, Salvatore’s Pizza Works and Gus’ Italian Grille in Howland; Marco’s, Margherita’s Grille and Amen Corner in Girard; Oven Fresh and Vernon’s in Niles; V2 in Youngstown; Cocca’s in Liberty; and Ianazone’s in McDonald.
