YOUNGSTOWN

Rambo the dog is doing fine after surgery on Monday to remove an arrow from his face.

Rick Punison, the Mahoning County Dog Pound kennel manager, shared the news and said while they confirm the ownership of the dog, Rambo will be sent to the pound.

Officials with the office said they have gotten two to three tips on who might have shot the arrow at the dog and were tracking those down Tuesday afternoon.

The dog was found on Youngstown’s East Side, at Miami and Scioto avenues, running around with the arrow sticking out of its head about noon Monday.

No baby news

Sharon Regional Health System and ValleyCare Health System of Ohio will no longer publicize the first baby born in the new year.

Trish Hrina, vice president of marketing and public relations for ValleyCare, said in an email the health care system based its decision “on guidance provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which has cautioned against these kinds of announcements because of the potential risk of abduction or identity theft.”

Hrina said she realizes the public always has interest in the first baby born in the new year, “but our first obligation is to the safety and privacy of our patients, which is why we made this decision.”
