Poland man faces passing bad-check charge


BOARDMAN — A Poland man faces a felony charge of passing bad checks after township police arrested him today. 

Michael Mele, 27, of Wingate Road was arrested in connection with an incident reported to township police by Charter One Bank last month, according to a police report. 

A representative from the parent company of Charter One reported to township police Nov. 6 that the bank lost $8,277 after 16 fraudulent checks were deposited and withdrawn from a joint account belonging to two suspects. 

All the fraudulent activity took place in September, according to the report. 

Mele is free on bond pending a court appearance.
