New York City theater plans live reading of ‘The Interview’

NEW YORK

Sony may have scrapped the release of the movie “The Interview,” but it will be in at least one theater in New York City — onstage, that is.

Treehouse Theater said Monday it will put on a free reading of the film’s script Saturday, giving “an opportunity for people to come together in the name of free speech, in defiance of all who have threatened it.”

Sony Pictures canceled the release of the movie “The Interview,” a comedy that revolves around the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, after receiving threats of terrorist attacks from hackers.

The Treehouse production will feature members of the comic Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater and will take place in its 50-seat black-box theater.
