Mattress store to open in old Krispy Kreme building in Boardman
BOARDMAN
Travelers on U.S. Route 224 in the township may have noticed some major changes to the building that used to house a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts shop.
Renovations are underway at a Mattress Firm Inc. store that will open in the building at 796 Boardman-Poland Road, the township’s zoning department said.
The company has received all the required permits and approval to renovate the space, assistant zoning inspector Marilyn Kenner said.
Changes to the space include improvements to the landscaping and an addition to the building.
“They had to upgrade their landscaping, and they had to show us their facade to make sure it’s more earth tones instead of neon,” Kenner said.
The company went through site-plan review in May, and got the permit required by the township to renovate in June.
The Cornice Co. of Fairlawn is handling the construction, according to the zoning permit.
Representatives for Mattress Firm or the company that owns the building, Stamford-Boardman LLC of Cleveland, could not be reached to give an opening date for the store.
Mattress Firm sells mattresses, beds, furniture and accessories such as pillows, according to the company’s website.
Mattress Firm Inc. is based in Texas and operates more than 1,100 stores in 28 states, according to the website. The company has both corporate-owned and franchise-owned stores.
