Hearing date changed

CANFIELD

The pretrial court hearing for a Canfield middle-school teacher charged with domestic violence, obstructing official business and resisting arrest has been pushed back to Jan. 6.

Douglas Dawson, 47, of Greenmount Drive, was arrested Nov. 27 at his home after his wife told police that he put her in a headlock, flipped her upside down and pinned her down. One of their children called the police, according to a report.

Dawson refused to move when police tried to arrest him, the report said. He then threw himself backward onto an officer, driving the officer into a glass cabinet. Police then stunned him and pinned him down.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges Nov. 28 and is free on bond. Dawson is on paid leave while the court case proceeds.
