Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will celebrate a pre-Kwanzaa event with biblical interpretations of the seven principles during a worship service at 5 p.m. Dec. 28.
Kwanzaa speakers will be the Rev. Kenneth Simon, New Bethel Baptist; the Rev. Ernest Ellis, Antioch Baptist Church; the Rev. Bryant Smith, Emmanuel Temple Seventh Day Adventist; the Rev. Sylvia Jennings, Oak Baptist Church; the Rev. Ellis Payne, Holy Bible Church of God; the Rev. Christopher McKee, Tabernacle Baptist; and the Rev. J. Dwayne Heard, Elizabeth Baptist.
Each pastor will be accompanied by their singing aggregations.

Kwanzaa, which is observed as an African-American festival, begins Dec. 26 and continues until Jan. 1. It climaxes with a celebration of the first fruits of the harvest. It is designed to be a proactive approach of personal and corporate development and empowerment.
Drama ministry

The drama ministry at Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Funston St., will present the play “Don’t Forget about Jesus” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Director is Debbie Smith. The Rev. Ernest Ellis is pastor.

Church anniversary
NEW SPRINGFIELD
Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 13519 Woodworth Road (Route 165), will celebrate 160 years with a special worship service and celebration at 4:30 p.m. today with Bishop Abraham Allende of the Northeast Ohio Synod presiding at the traditional service. Assisting will be the Rev. Aimee Raymond.
The adult choir will perform the Christmas cantata “Bethlehem’s Child” under the direction of Karen Chikosky. There will be Holy Communion.
A catered Christmas dinner will be served in fellowship hall after worship. Introductions of special guests, remarks by former pastors and a presentation will be highlights.
There will be no service Sunday.
The first worship service of Emmanuel Lutheran Church was Dec. 29, 1854.
Nativity planned
HERMITAGE, PA.
Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, will present a live nativity from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday.
Licensed as minister
YOUNGSGTOWN
David Bryant of Christian Bible Baptist Church, 2369 Oak St. Ext., will be licensed as a minister during a service at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Minister Bryant and his wife, Cindy, have four children and live in Youngstown.

Christmas special
Donald Reed Sr. and more than 60 individuals of various faiths have produced a Christmas Eve special to be shown at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Cornerstone TV (CTV) Channel 5, Shenango Valley, Greenville and Fredonia Channel 7 and UHF 29.

“Jesus, The Gift that Keeps on Giving” will be the Christmas program at 6 p.m. Sunday at Simon Road Church of God, 4750 Simon Road. There will be fellowship after the presentation.
