POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Dec. 8

Theft: A woman reported a laptop computer, a digital camera, a global-positioning-system unit and other items stolen from her Grace Drive home. The theft was estimated at $1,850.

Dec. 9

Arrest: Police took into custody 29-year-old Joseph A. Turner II at his Orchard Avenue residence. The Hubbard man was wanted on a probation-violation charge as well as on a warrant.

Theft: A Waugh Drive man alleged his grandson had used the accuser’s debit card on several occasions without authorization, racking up $540 worth of charges.

Dec. 12

Breaking and entering: Someone entered an equipment shed in the 800 block of North Main Street and removed two chain saws, a leaf blower and another saw. The loss came to $1,250.

LIBERTY

Dec. 11

Arrest: Deondre K. Hill, 20, of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on an outstanding township warrant.

Assault: An employer with an East Liberty Street insurance company alleged a former worker had grabbed his right arm during a fight that apparently was related to various pieces of paperwork.

Drugs/stolen property: Rebecca K. Martinez-Reed of Scott Street, Warren, faced two felony-theft counts as well as one each of receiving stolen property and possession of drug-abuse instruments after an acquaintance, of Fifth Avenue, had reported her purse, credit cards, prescription medications and other items stolen. Also, a suspected crack-cocaine pipe, a hypodermic needle and a spoon for suspected heroin use were found. In addition, 34-year-old Aaron A. Jones of Maple Street Southwest, Warren, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Arrest: Police near Goldie Road pulled over and took into custody 23-year-old Christopher Rios of Guadalupe Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a Youngstown Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Assault: A Youngstown woman told police a 29-year-old Farrell, Pa., woman struck her several times in the face during a fight between them in the 200 block of Goldie Road.

Dec. 12

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail booked 24-year-old Charese M. Grissett of Drummond Avenue, Youngstown, on a Girard Municipal Court warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court.

Arrest: Police were sent to downtown Youngstown to pick up 20-year-old Breazia Smith of Olivette Court, Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant charging criminal damaging.

Drugs: Kaitlyn E. Davis of Mahoning Avenue, Warren, was pulled over on Gypsy Lane and charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after police alleged the 23-year-old woman had six syringes and an envelope containing a spoon with suspected drug residue.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop on Church Hill Road resulted in 20-year-old Michael J. Bansberg’s arrest on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bansberg, of Overbrook Avenue, Youngstown, had part of a filter for a crack-cocaine pipe as well as a suspected crack pipe, police said.

Arrest: A vehicle check on Eastlawn Drive led to the arrest of 21-year-old Ondre L. Brown, of Eastlawn, Liberty. He was wanted on a felonious-assault charge.

Dec. 13

Arrest: Police on state Route 304 pulled over and charged 23-year-old Casey L. Fitzsimmons with operating a vehicle impaired after saying Fitzsimmons, of Westview Avenue, Hubbard, had a 0.186 blood-alcohol count, slightly more than double the legal limit.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 700 block of Colonial Drive was found with a dent in its rear driver’s-side door, likely from a bullet.

Theft: A worker for Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, reported a cellphone and a debit card missing while at work.

Arrest: Dontrail R. Burkes of Kendis Circle, Youngstown, was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail. The 24-year-old Burkes was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Arrest: John Rivers, 21, of Green Acres Drive, Liberty, was arrested on a Struthers warrant after police had pulled him over near Middle Drive.

Dec. 14

Arrests: Police on state Route 304 arrested 21-year-old Andrew J. Julian of North Ward Avenue, Girard, and 23-year-old Mary M. Kidd of Jackson Street, Lowellville, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired.

Burglary: A Youngstown boy, 15, was charged with burglary and receiving stolen property after someone had broken into a Murray Hill Drive residence. The teen was caught riding a $400 mountain bike that had been stolen from the home, a report showed.

Dec. 15

Arrest: Officers answered a shoplifting call at Walmart, where they took 55-year-old Gary D. Carter into custody. Carter, of Wirt Street, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant, and a theft charge was pending.

Arrest: Weathersfield Township police relinquished custody of Hope L. Young of Whitman Avenue, Youngstown, to Liberty authorities. Young, 28, was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Trespassing: Authorities responded to a report of an unwanted person in the 1300 block of Virginia Trail, where they charged Ryan J. Fisher, 19, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, with criminal trespassing and contributing to the unruliness of a minor. Fisher was at the residence without permission and in the presence of a 16-year-old girl who had been ordered to have no contact with him, a report stated.

Arrests: Officers arrested Jessie J. Lavin, 32, of Elm Street, Youngstown, and 60-year-old Debra Brown of Kenneth Street, Youngstown. Lavin and Brown were wanted on a probation-violation charge and a warrant, respectively.

Arrest: Deana R. Jenkins, 28, of Monette Street, Campbell, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail on a township warrant.

GIRARD

Dec. 14

Arrest: Police responded to a possibly intoxicated person in the 100 block of North Market Street before charging 42-year-old Ray L. Brock with disorderly conduct. Brock, of Lakeshore Terrace, Warren, refused to leave the premises, a report said.

Domestic violence: Lucas R. Redmond, 21, of North Ward Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after a woman alleged Redmond had struck her several times in the head, tossed her down and banged her head into the ground during an argument apparently related to their child.

Theft: A man reported his $750 cellphone stolen while at a West Main Street business.

Attempted burglary: A North Highland Avenue man told authorities another man kicked the accuser’s front door in an effort to enter, evidently to collect money owed.

Dec. 15

Arrest: A traffic stop near Church Hill Road led to the arrest of Kathleen Lehner of Mohican Drive, Girard, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired. The 52-year-old Lehner’s blood-alcohol count was more than twice the legal limit, a report showed.

Animal complaint: A North Avenue man said a neighbor keeps his dog tied up and allows it to continually bark, creating a nuisance and in violation of a city ordinance.

Theft: A Girard man found out 17 unauthorized charges totaling roughly $1,227 had been made to his PayPal account.

Theft: A Pittsburg Avenue man reported a woman had stolen his $650 cellphone.

Felonious assault: An Indiana Avenue man alleged another man had pointed a semiautomatic pistol at his face during an altercation in the accuser’s driveway.

Dec. 16

Arrest: McDonald authorities handed 28-year-old Joshua D. Capretta of Hazelton Street, Masury, to Girard police. He was wanted on a warrant charging theft.

Harassment: A Reeds Court man told police he’s received a series of calls claiming that he and his deceased mother had won $1 million.
