YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University's new head football coach Bo Pelini is addressing the media this morning – his first day on the job.

Reporter Joe Scalzo is live at the event.

"I got to tell you, for myself, my family - it's good to be back here in town," Pelini said.

Pelini said goal is to "make this the best football program in the country."

"When this job was open, Youngstown was very appealing to me, so I reached out and wanted to know, 'Was there interest on their end?'"

Pelini told reporters that this job was not "a stepping stone."

"If I was looking to move, I would have taken one of other opportunities," he said. "I didn't come here to pick up my kids and move after a year or two."

Pelini said he's got a lot of interest from coaches who want to join the staff but will first meet with the current staff. And he promised football fans in the Valley "are going to like the type of football that we play."

His goal is to "make this the best football program in the country."

Pelini acknowledged his reputation proceeds him. Discussing his coaching style, he said "sometimes you put your arm around them, sometimes you put your foot up their butt."
