Richard Labooth, who was wanted on a bench warrant after he walked out of the Mahoning County Courthouse just before his scheduled June sentencing on a felonious assault charge, has been apprehended and returned here from Columbus. Deputies picked him up from Franklin County jail and took him Friday to Mahoning County jail, where he is being held without bond, said Maj. William Cappabianca of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office. A new sentencing date has not been set. Labooth, 36, of East Avondale Avenue, will be sentenced for his role in a Dec. 14, 2012, shootout during a Lora Avenue drug deal.
Stolen box recovered

Joshua A. Curry, 21, of Leavittsburg was arraigned Monday in Newton Falls Municipal Court on a misdemeanor theft charge, accused of stealing a box delivered to the porch of a house on Kale Adams Road in Braceville Township on Dec. 1. Curry pleaded not guilty; bond was set at $5,000. He returns to court at 10 a.m. Jan. 6. Braceville police arrested Curry, of Briggs Road, a week ago after getting tips from viewers of a video on Braceville Police Department’s Facebook page. The surveillance video shows a man taking a box containing a $600 auto part meant as a Christmas gift from the Kale Adams residence and driving off with it. When Curry was arrested, police also recovered the stolen auto part, they said.
Drugs in jail

Police arrested 19-year-old Dre Kelley of Youngstown on a felony charge of illegal conveyance of drugs into the grounds of a detention facility. Kelley was also arrested on two misdemeanor charges for possession of drugs and marijuana. According to a police report, Kelley was driving on state Route 616 when he was pulled over for a traffic violation by officers Sunday night. Police found a prescription bottle containing a narcotic pain killer in a search of the vehicle. Later at the station, police found a bag of suspected marijuana Kelly had hidden.

The MCTA Youth Development Training Center’s 14th annual winter conference will be at 5 p.m. today at The Georgetown banquet facility, 5945 South Ave. Conference presenter will be local recording artist Joselyn Parker, a founder of the nonprofit organization S.P.E.A.K. (Silence Prevents Education And Knowledge), which promotes young people to use their words and break the cycle of silence she feels has been trying to kill this generation.
Everyone attending the conference is asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy or a household item to be donated to needy families at Beatitude House.
