Mount Union senior Nate Jacubec (Struthers) scored his 1,000th career point and the Purple Raiders defended their home court with an 81-67 win over Capital on Tuesday in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Jacubec entered the game needing only six points to reach the milestone and did so on his second three-pointer of the game with 9:36 remaining in the first half. Jacubec finished the game with 15 points and is now 27th in scoring in the program’s history.

Indians sign starter Gavin Floyd to 1-year

CLEVELAND

Right-hander Gavin Floyd has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Indians, giving him a chance to make a comeback from his latest elbow surgery.

The 31-year-old pitcher broke a bone in his elbow while throwing a curveball with Atlanta last June. He had surgery and couldn’t resume throwing until after the season.

Floyd is 72-72 career with a 4.40 ERA in 196 starts and 12 relief appearances with the Phillies, the White Sox and the Braves.

His best season was 2008, when he went 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA in 33 starts for the WhiteSox.
