YOUNGSTOWN

City detectives continue their search for suspects and had not made any arrests as of late Monday in the shooting death Saturday of Leroy Williams III.

Williams, 36, was shot multiple times about 2:45 a.m. at his home at 72 Brooklyn Ave. where he lived with his girlfriend and four children, two of whom they had together. The children, upstairs in the South Side home when the shooting occurred, were unharmed.

The circumstances of the shooting remain unknown, according to 21 WFMJ-TV news, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Assault at racino

AUSTINTOWN

Township police are investigating a case of assault after an incident that occurred at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, 777 Hollywood Drive, over the weekend.

Police responded to the racino about 1 a.m. Saturday in reference to two women fighting, according to a police report.

Video footage showed one woman standing on the gaming floor when the second woman approached and confronted her, according to the report. The two then got into a physical altercation on the gaming floor.

Police interviewed one of the women, and the other one fled before police arrived.

Store owner punched

YOUNGSTOWN

The owner of Petra Mart, 2402 South Ave., said he was punched in the nose while evicting a customer who police said wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes and became belligerent when he was asked for identification.

According to police, the suspect, Dexter L. Buxton, 18, of East Auburndale Avenue, was arrested at South and East LaClede avenues and charged with felonious assault shortly after the incident, which occurred at 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses told police the store owner came to investigate and ordered Buxton to get out. As the suspect was leaving, he slammed the door on the owner and then punched him in the face when he pushed the door back open.

Police took Buxton to the Mahoning County jail. A family member took the owner to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital for treatment.

Warren man shot

WARREN

A 23-year-old Warren man was shot in the back in the Highland Homes apartments at 11:50 p.m. Saturday and treated at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police found the man at Highland Avenue and Third Street Southwest with a female and called for an ambulance. The two said a male about 20 years old fired a shotgun at them at the dead end of Arnold Drive Southwest. Their vehicle had a gunshot hole in the back window.

The victims said they had just come from a wedding and picked up a friend and were preparing to drop him off in Highland Homes but made a “wrong turn” and ended up at the dead end, where the shooter fired several times.

Man injured

WARREN

A 23-year-old Burghill man suffered severe injuries to his face and head, with his jaw broken, eyes swollen shut and abrasions covering his face from being assaulted on Market Street near Park Avenue downtown at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The man said he was jumped by two males while walking on the sidewalk. They kicked him in the face multiple times and left, he said. They didn’t say anything or take anything, the victim said.

The victim said his father came and took him to St. Joseph Warren Hospital. The victim was able to communicate only by nodding his head.

Purse reported stolen

WARREN

A 78-year-old Front Street Southwest woman reported that a man entered her home at 7 p.m. Sunday and took her purse. The suspect told the woman he had watched her taking money from the bank on West Market Street Northwest earlier.

The man got inside the house by knocking at the door. She answered because she initially thought it was her son, she said.

Boy faces drug charges

A 17-year-old Poland boy faces drug-trafficking charges after township police arrested him at a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night.

Police found a marijuana grinder, a scale with marijuana residue and a large bag of suspected marijuana when the suspect was directed to the checkpoint’s diversion area. Police also found a duffel bag containing drug paraphernalia in the trunk.

The teen told police he started selling marijuana because some of his friends wanted to buy it, according to the report. He would not tell police where he gets the marijuana.

He was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was charged with a felony count of trafficking in drugs, and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs.

Resisting-arrest charge

BOARDMAN

A township man faces a charge of resisting arrest after police conducted a drug raid of an apartment last week, according to a police report.

Police arrested Anthony Cruz, 22, of Terrace Drive, on Thursday after they forcibly entered an apartment in the 7300 block of Bonnie Place and found drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Cruz was in the apartment when police entered, according to the report. Police found bags, marijuana pipes, suspected marijuana and a scale. He was charged with resisting arrest after police said he struggled with them and ignored commands.

OVI, weapons charges

CANFIELD

A Canfield man faces operating a motor vehicle impaired and weapons charges after police found a gun in his car during a traffic stop early Sunday, according to a police report.

Police stopped Peter Ceci, 40, of Camden Way after an officer observed him pull into an intersection while the traffic light was red.

The officer discovered that Ceci had a concealed carry permit, at which time Ceci confirmed that he had a gun in the vehicle’s console.

Officers then conducted a field sobriety test, which Ceci failed. Ceci was arrested for OVI and using a weapon while intoxicated.

He was scheduled to be in Mahoning County Area Court here today.

Food donations sought

COLUMBIANA

Area residents are being asked to donate food items to help feed hungry families during the grand finale of the “Pack the Pantry” food drive sponsored by iHeart Radio and taking place Wednesday at various locations throughout the city.

Designated drop-off points are the Dutch Village Inn on state Route 14; Witmer’s Inc. on Salem-Unity Road; the Dutch Haus Restaurant, Bakery & Gift Shop on South Avenue Extension; the Dutch Cupboard and Shakers Cottage in the Dutch Village plaza behind the restaurant; and Wellman’s Florist and Gift Shop on South Main in the downtown area.

The food collected will be donated to the South Range Council of Church and Community’s food bank to help feed needy families during the Christmas season.
