Mass. doctor cured of Ebola returning to Liberia

BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts doctor cured of Ebola says he's returning in January to Liberia, the West African country where he contracted the virus, to continue working at a medical mission.

Dr. Richard Sacra said he plans to spend about four weeks at the same clinic outside Monrovia where he has served for more than 20 years.

Dr. Sacra contracted Ebola in August and underwent treatment at an Omaha, Neb., hospital. He returned to Massachusetts on Sept. 25.

He is a University of Massachusetts Medical School faculty member. He says doctors have said he is now immune to Ebola.

Dr. Sacra made the comments after a news conference today in Boston announcing a $1 million state grant to help develop a faster, more accurate test for diagnosing Ebola.
