Software company growth expected to continue

The president of a local software-development company thinks there’s really no limit to his company’s growth.
Kevin Miller started Cogistix in mid-2009, and within six months it profited $100,000 and employed three people.
This year, the company will profit a little more than $5 million and employs more than 30.
This year, the company also added an office in Charlotte, N.C., and purchased a new office in Boardman to move from about 4,000 square feet to 15,000 square feet by February.
“I knew it had strong potential,” Miller said. “I didn’t think it would grow as fast as it did.”
Cogistix primarily resells a software called SYSPRO ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and implements it for manufacturing companies. The software can handle purchasing, inventory, sales orders, manufacturing and scheduling. It helps the companies centralize their operations. Cogistix also has some add-ons to the product.
“We have three developers on staff to augment the product where there is a shortcoming,” Miller said.
Cogistix was founded after Miller was recruited by SYSPRO in 2009 to sell it. Today, the company works with six dozen companies and has 15 active projects.
The Cogistix footprint exceeds the Mahoning Valley and hits 13 states.
“We have outside sales people that cover those areas for us, and they are really good at their jobs,” Miller said.
Many of the Cogistix employees do not work in the office, but Miller likes to be able to bring the employees in at times. He also needs to have the option to offer customers classroom-based training in the software. That’s why he has been in search of new office space from the current location at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road the past 18 months.
“We have never been able to have the classroom-based training,” Miller said. “That’s one of the things we are most eager about [with the new office].”
Last week, the company announced it had purchased the former Hill, Barth & King office building at 7680 Market St.
