Downed trees

Owners of a longtime southwestern Ohio Christmas tree lot are discouraged by vandals who knocked over all the trees. Huber Heights police in suburban Dayton are investigating the vandalism at the lot run by the city’s Optimist Club. Above, Cecilia Fox and her father, Bill Fox, work to repair the damage. Cecilia Fox, whose grandfather, Bill Fox, ran the club’s Christmas tree sales for 55 years, told the Dayton Daily News her grandfather would have been heartbroken by what happened. The lot was closed about 8 p.m. Saturday and the damage discovered Sunday morning. Club member Chad Bruns says the culprits needed time and energy to knock over the trees, which were secured to pallets by steel pegs. The Optimist Club supports groups such as the Boy Scouts, Police Explorers, school reading programs and youth sports.
