Warren JFK | Golf Ryan Fowler

Ryan Fowler may have had the best two days back-to-back any golfer could have.

Fowler shot a 1-under 71 in the first round of the state tournament at NorthStar Golf Club. He finished with a 72 the next day to capture a state championship.

Fowler won the title by five strokes over Michael Denner of Toledo Ottawa Hills.

“I just had my game together all year, and I practiced hard,” he said. “The goal was to make it to the state championship, which I did. Everything was just going good for me.”

Fowler says he is proud of the way he stays in the fairway.

“I don’t normally have a curve on the ball anywhere,” he said.

Fowler realized he had the potential to win the title during the regular season.

“There were three or four events in a row that I won and it just clicked,” he said. “I knew I could win the rest of them.”

Fowler wasn’t alone at state. The Eagles qualified as a team by winning a district title.

“The team was real good. We were all together and hang out,” Fowler said. “We were all like brothers, really.”

Winning the state title will be Fowler’s greatest memory of high school golf.

“Just being up on stage and everything else,” Fowler said. “I was super excited to bring it home and win it.”

This is not the first time the Eagles have had an individual winner.

Jason Kokrak won individual titles in 2001 and 2002.

“Me and Jason, when he is at Trumbull Country Club we’ll practice or mess around on the putting green,” Fowler said.

Fowler has learned a lot in his four years on the Eagles’ golf team.

“Just that you’re never out of it,” Fowler said. “Even if you have a bad hole, you still have the next hole to make it up.”

Fowler, who is considering college golf at Austin Peay or Xavier, will miss his time in the high school ranks.

“Just being with the team and going to practices and everything else together,” he said.
