Police probe South Side slaying

YOUNGSTOWN

A 36-year-old South Side man was gunned down during a robbery at his home, police said.

Leroy Williams III died of multiple gunshot wounds at his 72 Brooklyn Ave. home, said police Lt. Douglas Bobovnyik. The incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

He resided there with his girlfriend and four children, two of which they had together, he said.

The children were upstairs and didn’t wake up when two intruders gained entry into the house and started shooting, Bobovnyik said.

“The exact circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation,” he said. Williams “was awake and was confronted by the two individuals when they started shooting.”

It isn’t clear if the intruders took anything, Bobovnyik said.
