Poland | Soccer Anthony Sabula

Anthony Sabula made his mark on the soccer scene this season for the Poland Bulldogs. He led the Bulldogs with 22 goals on the season and was first-team All-American Conference (White Division). Sabula was also named All-Youngstown District Division II first-team.

“It means a lot because there is a lot of talent in this area,” Sabula said.

Sabula was impressed with the level of competition in the AAC.

“It’s second to none,” Sabula said. “We are all good friends so playing with kids you like is always a great time.”

Sabula was a four-lettermen for the Bulldogs.

“You get to experience being the youngest player on the team and the oldest,” Sabula said. “As a freshman you kind of you get nervous before everything. When you’re a senior, you kind of are pushing everybody around and telling them what to do.”

Sabula admitted that being a freshman was, in a way, more fun.

“I had a lot of older friends on the team that moved on,” Sabula said.

Sabula says he helped himself offensively this season.

“I wasn’t really intently trying to score but I put myself in position to get the ball,” Sabula said. “I was just being at the right place at the right time.”

Sabula will never forget one of his last games.

“Playing and winning the districts this year against Mooney,” Sabula said. “It was surreal. All of the players that could have came to Poland decided to go to Mooney. It’s a great feeling kind of showing them they should have came to Poland instead.”

Sabula doesn’t seem to think college soccer is in his future but he will not forget the moments with his team.

“Just the memories with my best friends, on and off the field,” he said. “It’s always a great time on the field with your best friends.”
