An 18-year-old East Auburndale Avenue man was charged with felonious assault Saturday, accused of punching the owner of a South Avenue market.

Dexter Lee Buxton entered the Petra Mart about 4 p.m., asking for cigarettes. According to a police report, he became belligerent when the store clerk asked him for identification. The owner of the store told him to leave, following him to the door before Buxton punched him, a police report said. Buxton was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Shots fired at SUV

City police are investigating a incident in which three people inside a sport uility vehicle were shot at.

The vehicle was pulling out of the Oak Street Market lot about 9:30 p.m. Friday when the occupants said they saw muzzle flashes coming from a driveway on Livingston Avenue. They realized they were being shot at, and got out of the SUV and fled into the store. Police found three bullet holes in the vehicle and a black tape-covered ball with a wick sticking out of it lying on the ground. The department’s crime lab and bomb squad collected evidence.

A 19-year-old Ashtabula County man was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital on Saturday morning after jumping from a moving car.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post said Lucas Laurenty of Austinburg was in the back seat of a car driven by a 17-year-old girl. Two other 17-year-olds, a female in the backseat and a male in the front, were traveling southbound about 9:45 a.m. on state Route 11 when the two backseat occupants began to argue.

Laurenty jumped from the car, the patrol said. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Exhibitors’ meeting

CANFIELD

The Canfield Fair annual exhibitors’ meeting will be 1 p.m. Jan. 17 at the fairgrounds. Exhibitors interested in various categories for the upcoming year are encouraged to attend. The arts and crafts department will meet in the administration building (No. 20); the horse and pony exhibitors will meet in the commercial building (No. 22); the antique-equipment exhibitors will meet in the maintenance building (No. 18); and all other departments will meet in the Colonial Inn (No. 19).
