Submit information on services for Christmas, New Year

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The Christmas services list will run on the Religion page next Saturday and the New Year’s list, Dec. 27.

The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb and time of services. The information should be accompanied by a name and a phone number for verification or any questions.

Lessons and carols

WARREN

The third annual Festival of Lessons and Carols will be sung by area Episcopal choirs at 7 p.m. Dec. 21 at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE.

The event is open to the public.

The festival is a format for a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus is told in short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books of the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols and choral selections.

Participating will be the choirs of St. James Episcopal in Boardman, St. John’s Episcopal in Sharon, Pa.; St. John’s Episcopal in Youngstown; St. Luke’s in Niles and the host church.

Dr. Richard Konzen is organist and Gary P. Richards, directing.

Readers will include the Rev. Gayle Cantinella, rector of St. John’s in Youngstown; the Rev. Jeffrey Baker, rector of Christ Episcopal; and Dr. David Belvedere, Klayton Scott, Paula Kubik, Linda Day, John Panagis and John Manhollan.

Christmas cantata

YOUNGSTOWN

Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., will present a Christmas cantata, “Hark the Angels Sing,” during the worship service at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 21.

The cantata will feature narration, solos and choir telling the story of Jesus’ birth from the angels’ viewpoint. The children’s choir, Grace Notes, also will sing.

Men’s Rally

Men’s Rally in the Valley will meet at 8 a.m. Dec. 20 for breakfast at the Das Dutch Haus for “Tom Snyder Day.” Speaker will be Mark Hoobler with music by Maryann Hoobler.

A huddle meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 22 at Bethel Lighthouse Ministries, 1543 Himrod Ave., Youngstown.

For children

MINERAL RIDGE

First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will offer “Get Aboard the Bethlehem Express” from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 20 to children in sixth grade and younger (4-year-olds and younger must be accompanied by an adult).

The experience of the Christmas story will include a birthday cake for Jesus, songs, goodie bag and snacks.

Choir program

BOARDMAN

The Chancel Choir of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, will present a traditional service of Lessons and Carols at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

There will be performances by adult and children’s bells and flute duet.

There will be no 8:15 a.m. worship.
