The Commons at Greenbriar senior assisted living facility, located at 8060 South Ave., hosted its annual Halloween trick-or-treating party on Oct. 29.

“Our family of residents and staff enjoy the Halloween festivities,” director of activities Gina Fernback said. “Passing out treats to our families and the public is mutual satisfying for our residents and the community. It’s a way for anyone who enjoys trick-or treating to fill up their treat bags in a very big way, while making our family of residents from the campus laugh and smile, and just enjoy the fun tradition of passing out candy on Halloween.”

In addition to trick-or-treating, there was punch and cookies, plus culinary director Rick Learned loaded up his trailer with bales of hay, and gave everyone a ride to the each of the buildings.

“Rick’s very passionate about making sure everyone has a good time,” Fernback said. “Fortunately the weather was mild and Rick had plenty of riders.”

Fernback said many of the staff from both buildings, the Greenbriar and the Commons, the assisted living facility, participated, while those who didn’t brought their families back for treats.

“We were very satisfied with the way things turned out and will do it again next year,” she said.

Fernback said the residents at the Commons had fun making their costumes as part of their activites during the week. They made jester hats, and Indian bands with feathers, just to name a few.
