POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Dec. 1

Theft: A wallet, $200 and other items were removed from a vehicle in the 7100 block of Bishop Road.

BOARDMAN

Dec. 3

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a residence in the 1800 block of Halbert Drive via a rear door, though it appeared nothing was missing or had been stolen.

Theft: Kenneth S. Rende, 50, of Melbourne Avenue, Boardman, was charged with taking a 32-inch, high-definition TV from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: Officers at a Market Street motel took 47-year-old Alvin P. Traylor III of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, into custody on two theft warrants. Traylor also was charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest when, police said, he refused to follow their commands.

Theft: A woman noticed her wallet missing while at a Southern Boulevard big-box store.

Robbery: Police in the 7100 block of Market Street arrested 24-year-old Ross D. Deweese of Furnace Street, Mineral Ridge, and charged him with robbery after a Nov. 28 incident in which a Columbiana man reported someone had demanded his wallet several times as the victim approached his vehicle at a business in the 7200 block of Market Street.

Burglary: To a home in the 5000 block of Forest Park Place, from which an Xbox game console, a video-game sensor and eight video games were stolen. The loss came to about $680.

Theft: Jason L. Womack of Forestview Drive, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of two pairs of pants from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. The 29-year-old Womack also was wanted on a Niles warrant charging theft.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole $20 worth of clothing from Walmart.

Vandalism: A man driving on West Boulevard told police someone tossed a rock at his vehicle, resulting in a large dent on its passenger side and a $1,000 damage estimate.

Theft: Nine bottles of prescription medications were removed from a vehicle at Southern Park Mall.

Dec. 4

Aggravated menacing/criminal damaging: Police received word that a woman had pulled a knife on a man in the 8600 block of Market Street during an argument between them. The man alleged she had stabbed and damaged his vehicle’s seat cushion.

Theft: Someone in the 700 block of Boardman-Poland Road took a $195 pair of sunglasses, an iPod device and a small sum of money from a car.

Harassment: A township woman at a Doral Drive big-box store reported having received threatening text messages, including a threat to slit her throat.

Theft: Authorities took custody of 31-year-old John P. Holbrook of South Butler Street, Niles, who was accused of stealing a $300 video-surveillance kit Nov. 1 from hh gregg, 441 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Poland woman discovered her wallet missing while at a Tiffany Boulevard grocery store.

Harassment: A Glenwood Avenue woman said she received the latest in a series of unwanted calls and text messages.

Theft: Two women reportedly stole two pairs of boots from Payless Shoesource, 48 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A woman took a $65 pair of men’s sweatpants from Foot Locker in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Four optical frames valued at $670 were missing from Sears Optical in Southern Park Mall.

Identity fraud: A Lemoyne Avenue man found out his personal information had been used without consent in an effort to obtain credit at three banks.

Theft: Authorities booked 30-year-old Stephanie R. Lattanzio of Terrace Drive, Boardman, on a theft charge related to an Aug. 4 shoplifting situation in which clothing had been stolen from Sears in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Aria N. Risbeck, 20, of Moon Township, Pa., and 22-year-old William E. Barnes of Sprucevale Road, East Liverpool, were charged with stealing a bracelet, earrings and two packages of socks from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall. Barnes also was charged with obstructing official business and was wanted on a Carroll County warrant accusing him of failing to report to adult-probation authorities regarding the original charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Theft: An MP3 player and $15 were removed from a vehicle in the 1300 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Dec. 5

Drugs: Acting on a search warrant, the Boardman Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit charged 20-year-old Melvin L. Land of West Boulevard, Boardman, with one felony count each of trafficking in heroin, possession of dangerous drugs and tampering with evidence, as well as one count each of endangering children, resisting arrest and obstructing official business, all misdemeanors.

Harassment: A Cascade Drive woman said she received approximately 15 emails that were derogatory and harassing in nature.

Stolen property: Struthers police reported that information in a receipt at a Youngstown-Poland Road jewelry business for a $600 bracelet matched the description of an item stolen from a Lowellville man.

Theft: A woman stole $14.50 worth of cleaning products from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: A Glenwood Avenue woman alleged her caretaker used the accuser’s food-stamp card to buy $32 worth of groceries for herself without the woman’s permission.

Identity fraud: A Cover Drive man reported receiving a $186 bill from Verizon Wireless pertaining to an account he had never activated.

Theft: A woman stole about 26 undergarments valued at $1,194 from Victoria’s Secret in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Someone stole an estimated $6,252 worth of steel pallets and piping from Dearing Compressor & Pump Co., 3974 Simon Road.

Vandalism: Two cars at a business in the 100 block of Marwood Circle were found with broken windows and dents. The damage came to $1,500.

Dec. 6

Arrest: Police responding to a large fight at a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant charged 21-year-old Jaquez M. Brown with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct after alleging Brown, of Volney Road, Youngstown, continually directed obscenities at officers in front of children and refused to provide his personal information.

Identity fraud: A Struthers woman learned that her identity had been compromised when she received a text message at a Doral Drive store instructing her to pick up various items in layaway, even though she never had placed any there.

Theft: A Struthers boy reported his $500 iPhone stolen while at a McClurg Road business.

Theft: A man in his 20s stole $22 worth of clothing from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.

Misuse of a credit card: A Poland woman found out that her stolen card was used without authorization to buy $2,000 worth of merchandise at a business in Shops at Boardman Park.

Theft: A woman who had reserved a children’s party at Chuck E. Cheese’s, 521 Boardman-Poland Road, reportedly failed to pay the $144 bill.

Menacing: A worker for a Market Street business told officers a customer made an implied threat after having become upset when informed that a prescription was not ready to be picked up.

Theft: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to charge 20-year-old Ryan W. Frye of Dennison Drive, Warren, with theft related to an Oct. 22 situation in which a $199 drill-and-wrench tool kit was stolen from Lowe’s, 1100 Doral Drive.

Robbery: Adam C. Strapazzon, 31, faced a robbery charge after a $200 set of headphones was stolen from Walmart. The New Cumberland, W.Va., man also pushed a loss-prevention official out of the way before fleeing, a report showed.

Theft: The front license plate was stolen off a vehicle in the 7500 block of Market Street.

Theft: Keely Wyant, 20, of Hopkins Road, Boardman, was charged after $206 worth of clothing was taken from the J.C. Penney store.

Dec. 7

Burglary: Took place at a residence in the 50 block of Prestwick Drive, from which a 65-inch TV was taken. The home also was ransacked.

Domestic violence: John W. Huzvar III of South Schenley Avenue, Boardman, was picked up on a warrant after his mother alleged Huzvar, 43, had threatened her with serious bodily harm before leaving the residence on foot.

Identity theft: A Smith Township man realized that a $311 unauthorized charge was made with his debit card at a Market Street drugstore.

Theft: Shawn L. Paulin Sr., 35, of East Western Reserve Road, Poland, was charged with stealing roughly $35 worth of items from Walmart.

Theft: Youngstown police handed 63-year-old John E. Burroughs to township authorities. Burroughs, of Hilltop Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of stealing about $26 worth of body lotions and deodorant Nov. 12 from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Dec. 8

Arrest: Authorities received a complaint that a van was blocking traffic on South Avenue before they charged 52-year-old James E. Cutshall of South Avenue, Boardman, with assault on a police officer, operating a vehicle impaired and resisting arrest. While being taken into custody, an intoxicated Cutshall became agitated and struck an officer’s right shoulder with his shoulder in an attempt to break free, a report stated.

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed to Boardman police Raymond J. Bagdassarian Jr., 47, of Ewing Road, Boardman, who was wanted on an animal-abandonment charge, a second-degree misdemeanor. After having been evicted from a Wildwood Drive apartment last month, Bagdassarian intentionally left a cat on the property without providing food and water, a report said.
