Ohio serial rapist gets 22 more years in prison

CLEVELAND (AP) — A man already serving a long prison sentence for rape has received an additional 22 years after pleading guilty to the rapes of two teens in Cleveland in 1994.

Ronald Wheeler, 42, previously pleaded guilty and received the new sentence Thursday in a Cleveland courtroom. He was serving a 21-year sentence after being convicted for two rapes that occurred in 2007.

Prosecutors say the latest charges were brought after old rape kits from Cleveland police were submitted to the state crime lab for DNA testing.

The convictions stem from attacks on an 18-year-old woman in August 1994 and on a 14-year-old girl in December 1994. Both victims were at bus stops when they were abducted and then raped.

Wheeler’s attorney declined to comment today.
