Warren G. Harding High School gets extra security after ‘bad’ fight

Staff report

WARREN

The superintendent of Warren City Schools says there was a “bad fight” at Warren G. Harding High School about 3 p.m. Wednesday, and school officials took extra precautions to start the school day Thursday.

There was no riot, no threat to students or staff, and the school day Thursday proceeded practically as usual, he told families in a telephone message near noon Thursday.

Superintendent Steve Chiaro said he sent the message to parents because lots of misinformation was being spread on social media after a video of the fight appeared on a website Wednesday night.

Chiaro said the fight occurred at the end of the school day Wednesday, about 3 p.m., and involved about three people, but he said he had no other information about injuries to any of the students.

The video shows one male youth apparently knocked unconscious outside the building near school buses and lots of other students and some adults nearby.

One unidentified man can be seen getting involved to help. One youth appears to be picking up the unconscious youth and dropping him back onto the ground.

The Warren Police Department, which provides four officers as school resource officers for the district, did not complete a police report on the incident.

But police officers described the incident over their police radios as a large fight and called for an ambulance for two juveniles, one of whom had a head injury.
