Forum on community policing set for Dec. 20 in Youngstown church

YOUNGSTOWN — A community forum on policing will be 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 20 in the fellowship hall of New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St.

The purpose of the forum is to discuss safety problems and concerns of the community, while avoiding attacking police officers.

The event will offer an open and honest dialogue to ensure police accountability, transparency and effectiveness, and that community members must be active partners to make this happen.

Topics of focus will be diversity training, use of force, innovations in recruiting and hiring and equity in justice.

Questions from attendees are welcomed.

The event is sponsored by retired Youngstown Police Department ranking officers. The event is not affiliated with the YPD. It is open to the public.
