BHS bowling starts season


On Dec. 3, the Boardman varsity boys bowling team defeated Austintown Fitch 2579-2296 in the opening contest of the year for both squads. Boardman was led by Nick Tancabel who tallied scores of 243 and 213. Jake Wagner had the top individual game score of 248 while Jason Babnic contributed a 211 game and Brian Stanchin rolled a 205.

The varsity girls bowling team fell to Austintown Fitch by a final score of 2326-2149. Gloria Hynes led all bowlers with a set of 417 (201-216). Alexis Grim had the top individual game for the Lady Spartans with a game of 217 while Breanna Kereluik added a 200 game.

The Boardman junior varsity boys fell at Austintown 2212-2107. Top performers for the Spartans included Nathan Needham (225) and Bobby Morrell (215).

On Dec. 4, Boardman’s varsity boys team improved to 2-0 on the season, defeating the Howland Tigers 2644-2368. Kevin Hynes led all scoring with games of 278 and 233 for a 511 series. Jake Wagner added games of 247 and 203, while Nick Tancabel rolled a 428 series (219-209).

Boardman’s varsity girls notched their first win of the season, defeating Howland 2015-1998. Alexis Grim topped all scorers with a 246 game. Gloria Hynes chipped in with games of 179 and 176.

The junior varsity boys defeated Howland 2284-1677. The Spartans were led by Nick Christmas who rolled games of 240 and 227. Other top scorers included Cody Creque (2047), Chase Felger (194) and Bobby Morrell (191,191).
