Christmas in a classical-crossover way

Staff report

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Annie Moses Band, the Juilliard-trained classical-crossover ensemble, will come to Stambaugh Auditorium on Friday as part of its Christmas tour.

The concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will feature high-energy renditions of traditional holiday standards in performances that Stephen Clapp, the former dean of the Juilliard School, declares “imaginative and attentive to classic traditions, but accessible to all.”

The tour showcases the original arrangements of award-winning composer and arranger Bill Wolaver, including “Carol of the Bells,” “O Come O Come Emmanuel” and the fan favorite “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman,” as well as the critically acclaimed vocals of Annie Wolaver-Dupre. On stage, Annie is also accompanied by the multi-instrumentalist Wolaver siblings: Alex, Benjamin, Camille, Gretchen and Jeremiah. They named the band after their grandmother.

Annie Moses Band has been touring for more than a decade, has released two albums and has been seen extensively on PBS.

The innovative act — featuring a string quartet, mandolin, harp, piano, acoustic and electric guitar — recently made its debuts at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry.
