The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it believes Tony Wells, 25, of McDonald, was riding his bicycle southbound on the right side of the southbound lane of Austintown-Warren Road on Thursday morning when he was struck by a large vehicle and killed.

The patrol asks that anyone with information on the accident to call the Southington barracks of the patrol at 330-898-2311.

The accident occurred about 6:15 a.m. south of Dover Street near the blast furnace of the former RG Steel mill. The location is in Warren Township.

“Troopers are certain that [Wells] was struck by a large vehicle. The driver failed to stop at the scene and has not come forward as of this time,” the patrol said in a press release.

The patrol is interested in hearing from anyone who saw a large vehicle traveling in the area. The crash is still under investigation.

Wells worked for ITPS in Niles as a pipefitter. He enjoyed riding bikes, dirt bikes, four wheelers, basketball and fishing, according to his obituary.

He leaves a daughter who lives in McDonald.
