Landau Murphy in benefit concert

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., the winner of the 2011 “America’s Got Talent” competition, will perform in concert March 27 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., to benefit Youngstown State University’s Diversity Leadership Minority Scholarship endowment.

Special presale tickets are available now through Dec. 19, which include dinner and the concert for $50. After Dec. 19, tickets for the dinner/concert package will be $60, while concert-only tickets will be $25. Call the Stambaugh box office at 330-259-0555. The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., and the concert is at 8 p.m.

The YSU Diversity Leadership Minority Scholarship fund was established in 2009 to recognize students from all ethnic minority groups whose leadership activities and/or organizations promote diversity and inclusiveness on campus and in the community.

The dinner will include awarding the annual Diversity Leadership Awards and the Diversity Leadership Minority Scholarship. For information, call 330-941-3370.

Murphy, a native of West Virginia, walked away with the “America’s Got Talent” $1 million first prize three years ago by wooing judges with renditions of classic hits from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Cab Calloway.

He has since released two albums, “That’s Life” and “Christmas Made for Two,” and performed across the nation, from Las Vegas to New York.
