Tutor fired for assignment that detailed 5 ways to kill a teacher
AUSTINTOWN — Austintown schools officially fired Robert Greier at a special board of education meeting Saturday.
Greier, a HOPE Academy tutor, was fired for “inappropriate conduct with regards to help provided to a student,” the board’s agenda detailed.
HOPE – Helping Others Pursue Excellence – is an online extension of Austintown schools that allows students to attend make up credits for failed classes.
The initial incident that led to Grier’s firing was that he recommended a 16-year old student to write about five ways to kill a teacher. Superintendent Vincent Colaluca said last week that “it was an irrational decision on guidance on how to guide a student to help him with his work.”
Greier was approved as a HOPE tutor at the Sept. 16 Austintown Board of Education meeting. Several tutors for Falcon Pride Online and HOPE, both online extensions of Fitch High School, were approved at that session.
Austintown schools had a special work session 8 a.m. Saturday where this action took place.
