Man pleads to reckless homicide for April 3 killing

YOUNGSTOWN — A man accused of an April 3 homicide in the 100 block of Renee Drive in Struthers pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless homicide Monday before Judge John Durkin in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Prosecutors have agreed to stand silent when 26-year-old Matthew Alexander is sentenced Feb. 3.

Alexander had been charged with killing 34-year-old Matthew Molnar inside Molnar's home at about 2:45 a.m. April 3 during an argument following a night of drinking.

Had the case gone to trial, defense attorneys were going to argue self defense. Jury selection was slated to begin Monday before the plea agreement was reached.

The maximum sentence is three years on the charge.
