STATE PATROL

Cheryl A. Smith has been selected for the 2014 Ohio State Highway Patrol Telecommunications Award at the Canfield Dispatch Center. She also was selected Dispatcher of the Year for the Cleveland District and is in contention for the State Dispatcher of the Year award.

Smith, 52, joined the patrol in 1985 and has served at the Warren Post, Canfield Post and Lisbon Dispatch Center. A native of Poland, Smith graduated from Poland Seminary High School and attended Youngstown State University. She and her husband, Doug, live in Mahoning County.

Smith has been honored with the Post Dispatcher of the Year awards in 1987, 1988, 1990 through 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2006 through 2008, and 2014. She was honored as District Dispatcher of the Year in 1991, 2006, and 2014.

Also, the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol selected Trooper David M. Brown as the 2014 Trooper of the Year. He also was selected as Trooper of the Year for the Cleveland District and is in contention for the state Trooper of the Year award.

Fellow post troopers chose Brown based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public, according to a post news release.

Brown joined the patrol in 2012. He is a Canfield native and a graduate of Canfield High School. He lives in Mahoning County.

HONORS

A lawyer with a firm that focuses on Workers Compensation, Social Security Disability and personal injury law has been named to the 2015 Super Lawyers list, which contains fewer than 5 percent of Ohio’s lawyers.

Atty. Joseph A. Moro, a partner in Heller, Maas, Moro and Magill Co., LPA, has made the list, which rates lawyers from more than 70 areas of practice, who have attained outstanding peer recognition and professional achievement.

A Youngstown native, Atty. Moro obtained his bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and his law degree from the University of Cincinnati and was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1985.

He is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a Workers Compensation specialist and speaks fluent Spanish.
