At Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., the Adult Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. in the Quaker Room.
The book choice for Decem-ber is “The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey” by Candice Millard.
The book is a historical and biographical adventure taking place on one of the world’s most challenging and dangerous rivers. Copies of the book may be borrowed from the library or through the Ohio Digital Library, which may be accessed through the library’s website, www.salem.lib.oh.us.
The book discussion group is open to the public, and no registration is needed. For information, call the library at 330-332-0042.
Supernatural thriller features Struthers
Youngstown State University graduate and longtime Mahoning Valley resident Lorraine Carey, also known as Lorraine Kolmacic, has a new book release on Amazon that features the city of Struthers and Struthers High School in a supernatural thriller that has historical data of the Roman vestal virgins woven throughout.
The story chronicles a young teen, Christina Ciccone, who experiences nightmares during her early teens and has a penchant for fire. She encounters strange visions, and a trip to Rome with her history club will thrust her into a paranormal world she never knew existed.
From Struthers to Rome, Italy, a wild ride awaits the reader. The book is targeted to the young-adult and adult audiences.

Lorraine Carey now resides on Grand Cayman, were she continues to write novels while serving as a part-time children’s reading specialist for a private school.
‘Old Brick’ will be sold at book signing
ROGERS
Negley native Judy Lennington has released her newest novel, “The Old Brick,” and has scheduled a book signing from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Y Inn in Rogers.
“The Old Brick” is a murder/ghost story that takes place in Negley.
The novel can be purchased at www.amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com and www.xlibris.com or at the signing. The cost is $25.
She also will have available “Mud Sock,” the true story of her father growing up in Rogers. The cost is $30.
Book examines lives of Staughton, Alice Lynd
Two retired faculty members of Kent State University have written a study of Ohio justice activists Alice and Staughton Lynd of Niles.
Mark Weber of Solon, Ohio, and Steve Paschen of Hudson, Ohio, are the authors of “Side by Side.”
It is available from Kent State University Press for $29.95.
Book pictures city then and now
ELLWOOD CITY, PA.
Local author Mark Barnes has sold out the first printing of his book, “Ellwood City Then & Now Volume 1.”
The book is a photographic compilation that juxtaposes old photographs with current pictures taken at precisely the same location and angle so that readers can accurately compare how life has changed in Ellwood City.
The book has 300 photos of Ellwood City — 150 old photos of “then,” and 150 new comparison photos of “now.”
