Boardman teacher pleads not guilty to operating a motor vehicle impaired
CANFIELD
A Boardman teacher has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges stemming from an incident Nov. 29 in which law-enforcement officials said he struck another vehicle, failed to stop for an officer who tried to pull him over and then registered a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.
Andrew Wade, 37, of Canfield, a teacher at Glenwood Middle School, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of failure to comply with the order of a police officer, operating a motor vehicle impaired and hit-skip.
Wade was scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court on Friday, but entered written pleas and waived his right to a speedy trial before his scheduled arraignment hearing.
According to a report, a Mahoning County deputy sheriff was sitting in the Tippecanoe Square parking lot about 7 p.m. when he noticed a white Chevrolet Malibu traveling north on Tippecanoe Court move left of the center line and hit the side of a vehicle traveling south on the street.
The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling north toward Tippecanoe Road, according to the report.
The vehicle then ran a stop sign, turned left onto Indian Drive, turned right onto Catawba Drive and continued to a nearby apartment complex where deputies administered a field-sobriety test on Wade.
A breath test conducted at the Canfield Police Department registered Wade’s blood-alcohol content at 0.17. The legal limit for intoxication in Ohio is 0.08.
Mahoning County Court records indicate that Wade previously was convicted on a reckless-operation charge in 2006.
Wade is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court on Jan. 20 for a pretrial hearing.
A Boardman schools representative said the district has no comment.
