Nursing home sued
YOUNGSTOWN
The estate of a man, who allegedly suffered a fatal head injury after walking out of the Springfield Township nursing home where he lived, has sued the nursing home chain for more than $25,000 in damages in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
The estate of Myron Esposite said Esposite left Masternick Memorial Health Care Center, 5250 Windsor Way, on Aug. 24, 2013, fell onto the pavement, struck his head and died the next day. The lawsuit, filed this week and assigned to Judge Shirley Christian, alleges that the nursing home, owned by Windsor House Inc., negligently failed to provide adequate staffing, security and supervision. Windsor’s corporate counsel, John P. Daliman, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Market robbed
NEW CASTLE, Pa.
A man 20 to 30 years old wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and bandanna covering his face robbed Book’s Market, 3384 Perry Highway in Scott Township, Lawrence County, at 1:55 p.m. Friday.
The man requested several packs of cigarettes, then brandished a handgun and demanded the money from the cash register, which the clerk gave him. He then fled on foot along Perry Highway, Pennsylvania State Police said.
A similar robbery occurred 20 minutes later at Last Minit Mart, also on Perry Highway, but this one in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, with the suspect having the same description as in the Book’s Market robbery, police said. The two stores are about 6 miles apart.

Weapons charge
YOUNGSTOWN
Roger White, 31, of Youngstown, was arrested on a charge of carrying concealed weapons after police found an unloaded .38-caliber revolver in the glove box of a car he was driving about 9:40 p.m. Thursday.
Reports said White was pulled over for an expired registration at West Dewey and Hudson avenues and officers smelled marijuana coming from inside his car. He said the car was his girlfriend’s and he was asked if he had anything illegal inside, reports said.
Reports said White told police his gun may have been in the car, but it was unloaded. Police found the gun, along with four live rounds on the floor of the car and two burnt suspected marijuana cigarettes.
White was taken to the Mahoning County jail. Three passengers with him were released without being charged.

Beware of scam
NORTH LIMA
Beaver Township police want to make people aware of a scam in which a person will distract residents while another person burglarizes their home.
“An individual comes to your door and asks to see your property lines, because they’re going to be cutting down some trees. Once they take you outside, another individual goes inside your home and burglarizes it,” said Lt. Eric Dattilo.
Dattilo said the scam has been attempted twice in the township, and a few times in nearby communities. In one instance a few weeks ago, the burglars were successful. The burglars were turned away from a residence on the 9000 block of Market St. Friday when the homeowner recognized it was a scam.
Police do not have suspects or vehicle descriptions at this time.
Dattilo said residents should call the police if a similar incident happens to them.
