The students and staff of West Boulevard Elementary School got the chance to dine with area veterans for Veterans Day on Nov. 11. The school has been hosting its Veterans Day luncheon and program for the past 11 years.

The day began at 11 a.m. with an hour-long luncheon, with the main entree being French toast. At 12:20 p.m., the third-grade students performed a Veterans Day music program for the veterans.

“The students learned how to respect and honor the veterans,” West Boulevard secretary Nancy Cipperley said.

Third-grader Alexa Alabed said she had mixed emotions about performing for the veterans.

“I felt happy and sad when we sang to the veterans,” she said. “I was happy because it brought tears to their eyes so I knew they were happy to see us perform. They knew we were grateful to them. I was sad for the veterans who died in war like my two grandfathers.”
