A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Nov. 24

Damage: Property damage was reported at a residence in the 3300 block of Swallow Hollow Drive.

Nov. 26

Drugs: Police on Wolosyn Circle pulled over, then issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to 33-year-old Robert Slaven of Stewart Road, Lowellville, charging him with drug abuse.

Nov. 27

Arrest: A traffic stop on state Route 170 resulted in the arrest of Victor M. Alvarado Hernandez, 58, of Youngstown-Hubbard Road, Hubbard, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

BOARDMAN

Nov. 26

Arrest: Officers responded to a domestic situation on Stadium Drive, where they arrested 51-year-old Douglas J. Halliday of Stadium Drive, Boardman, on a probation-violation charge.

Assault/criminal damaging: A woman reported having been pushed and punched while in the 7100 block of Locust Avenue. Another woman told police she was assaulted in the 300 block of Shields Road, and that a rock was tossed at her vehicle.

Attempted theft: A man reportedly tried to steal a 51-inch flat-screen TV from hh gregg, 441 Boardman-Poland Road.

Burglary: To a home in the 5900 block of Sharon Drive. Numerous gift cards were removed from a vehicle.

Possible theft: A woman reported her cellphone lost or stolen while at Southern Park Mall.

Citation: Authorities cited James S. Daley, 63, of Firnley Avenue, Boardman, after having pulled him over near Indianola Road. He was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Domestic violence: Police arrested 48-year-old Hope J. Steffey at her Milltrace Road residence. The Boardman woman was wanted on a Stark County warrant.

Assault: A Hubbard woman alleged that while undergoing a medical examination at an office in the 1200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road, her arm was grabbed and squeezed, resulting in bruises.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown at a residence in the 800 block of Mayfield Drive.

Drugs: Officers at a Market Street motel charged John A. Baumgartner, 23, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia as well as drug abuse (marijuana) after alleging Baumgartner, of Lincoln Avenue, Struthers, had a syringe and a suspected marijuana cigarette. Also found were part of an aluminum can and a bag with suspected heroin residue, a report said.

Nov. 27

Arrest: Samuel Swoger IV, 39, of Viall Road, Austintown, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near Southern Boulevard on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired. Swoger’s blood-alcohol count was 0.265, more than three times the legal limit, a report showed.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 400 block of Gardenview Drive tossed eggs at a Jeep vehicle, striking its rear window.

Theft: A woman reported three pieces of jewelry, including a gold necklace, missing from her apartment in the 7100 block of Glendale Avenue.

Theft by deception: A Columbiana man who had bought an iPhone from another man discovered the device remained locked even after he went to Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road, in an effort to have the device activated.

Arrest: Police answered a call about a car in a front yard on Aylesboro Avenue, where they charged 23-year-old Dean T. Fekete of Janell Court, Canfield, with operating a vehicle impaired and driving while texting.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 6800 block of Lockwood Boulevard was found with dents and scratches on its driver’s side.

Nov. 28

Animal cruelty: The landlord of a Wildwood Drive apartment told police that after having been evicted, a tenant abandoned a cat on the premises without providing food or water.

Arrest: After responding to a possible theft at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, officers charged 18-year-old Pablo Valentin Jr. of Parkview Avenue, Youngstown, with obstructing official business. Valentin fled from police on foot a short time later before being apprehended behind a trash bin in the 6000 block of Market Street, a report showed.

Attempted robbery: A Columbiana man told authorities that as he approached his vehicle at a Market Street business, someone in a camouflage jacket and baseball cap wearing glasses and a beard demanded his wallet several times. The victim also told police he was uncertain if the would-be robber, who was seen walking on Market Street, had a weapon.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 1800 block of Massachusetts Avenue was found with damage to its taillights and driver’s-side panel.

Theft: Authorities booked 27-year-old Michael J. Martynyszyn of Neff Drive, Canfield, who was accused of stealing 43 items valued at $376 from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.

Theft: A Hubbard man noticed his cellphone missing while at Southern Park Mall.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into and did extensive damage to a camper in the 400 block of East Western Reserve Road. Also, trash was strewn about, a report said.

Criminal damaging: A mailbox sustained damage in the 8000 block of Hunters Cove Drive.

Theft: Someone stole two speaker headsets and an electronic device from Walmart.

Theft: A former tenant reportedly took a $600 refrigerator from an apartment in the 600 block of Cook Avenue.

Fraud: A Youngstown man discovered someone had made two withdrawals totaling $350 from his account at a South Avenue bank.

Theft: A man stole two flat-screen TVs from Walmart.

Theft: A man stole a $400 indoor and outdoor security system from Best Buy.

Nov. 29

Arrest: A traffic stop near West Boulevard led to the arrest of 70-year-old James L. Losasso of Northlawn Avenue, Boardman, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Theft: Two Youngstown boys, 14 and 15, were accused of stealing two sweatshirts from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Cynthia M. Ferreri of Brunswick Road, Youngstown, faced a theft charge. The 31-year-old Ferreri was accused of stealing roughly $116 worth of clothing from Sears in Southern Park Mall.

Aggravated menacing: A Tam-o-Shanter Drive woman reported a man made an implied threat to shoot at her home.

Assault: A Lithonia, Ga., woman staying at a Tiffany Boulevard motel alleged her boyfriend punched and kicked her and choked her with a duffel-bag strap during an argument that apparently started after she had accused him of taking a $500 gift card.

Theft: A man and a woman left Blue Wolf Tavern, 1295 Boardman-Canfield Road, without paying their $59.70 food bill.

Theft: Audra L. Bates, 47, of Center Drive, North Lima, was charged with taking $116 worth of computer-related items from Walmart.

Arrests: A traffic stop on Market Street resulted in the arrests of Macy V. Francis, 18, of Erskine Avenue, Boardman, on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments, as well as 24-year-old Justin A. Redmond, same address, on a warrant charging failure to appear in court. Francis also was charged with wrongful entrustment, a misdemeanor, when, police alleged, she allowed Redmond to drive the vehicle knowing his driving privileges had been suspended.

Identity theft: A Quail Court woman alleged her former boyfriend deliberately and without permission changed the passwords to four of her accounts, including Facebook, preventing the accuser’s access to them.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 14, was accused of stealing three packs of socks from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Nov. 30

Child endangerment: Authorities investigated a 16-year-old Columbus girl’s allegation that her mother had abandoned her. A man drove the teen from that city to Liberty Township, where he dropped her off at a big-box store before she got a ride to a South Avenue motel, a report stated.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit, a hair-removal tool, $30 and a radio receiver were removed from a car at Southern Park Mall. The loss was estimated at $780.

Theft: McDonald police relinquished custody of 27-year-old Brandon J. McGann, who was wanted on a theft warrant. McGann, of Summit Avenue, Niles, was accused of stealing several articles of clothing in an Oct. 27 shoplifting situation at Fin, Feather and Fur Outfitters, 1138 Boardman-Poland Road.

Drugs: Youngstown police handed 31-year-old David H. Devlin Jr. to township authorities. Devlin, of Cranbrook Court, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant charging possession of drug-abuse instruments related to an April 16 drug overdose at a business in the 500 block of East Midlothian Boulevard.

Theft: Ian R. Lange, 18, of Southwind Trail, Poland, was charged in the theft of a cellphone case and a folding knife from Walmart.

Theft: A Thalia Avenue woman found out that someone without authorization had picked up her prescription at an East Midlothian Boulevard business.

Menacing: A Jaguar Drive man alleged his landlord’s fiancee threatened him, causing the accuser to fear for his safety.

Theft: Two 17-inch tires valued at $400 were stolen from Firestone Complete Auto Care, 7401 Market St.

Theft: A Salinas Trail woman reported a $100 laser light stolen from her front yard.
